Softball Recap: Mccook Has No Trouble Against Lexington

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kearney Catholic, McCook was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Lexington Minutemen with a sharp 14-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bison in their matchups with the Minutemen: they've now won five in a row.

Gracey Cornelsen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cassidy Rogers was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlie Rupp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

McCook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

McCook's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Lexington, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

McCook and Lexington could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. The Bison (ranked 89th) will meet St. Cecilia (ranked 16th) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Lexington will challenge Kearney Catholic at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (114 vs. 29).
