Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ella Bouwman and Raeann Massey Lead Fort Calhoun to Victory

Fort Calhoun won the last time they faced Douglas County West and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pioneers blew past the Falcon 61-38. Fans of the Pioneers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Leading Fort Calhoun to victory were Raeann Massey and Ella Bouwman. Massey went 5-for-8 en route to 14 points and four steals, while Bouwman shot 75% from the field to rack up 15 points. Thanks to that strong game, Bouwman now owns an excellent 47.8% shooting accuracy. Kamie Nelson also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first board of the season.

Several Falcon players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Talia Walsh, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 10 points. Elliott Estep was another key player, putting up eight points.

Fort Calhoun's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points over those games. As for Douglas County West, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Fort Calhoun will venture away from home to square off against Yutan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Douglas County West, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-27 victory against Concordia on the 13th.
