League recap: Gettys overpowering for Gainesville in past week

8A-AAAAA league recap: 3/8/13

8A-AAAAA's top pitcher this week was Gainesville's Michael Gettys. He picked up one win and six strikeouts.

Top honors in the league this week go to Winder-Barrow, which finished with two wins overall, good for best in the league. The Bulldogs beat Franklin County 3-2 and Madison County 10-0.

The Red Elephants' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only two hits and five walks, both of which led the league.

Gainesville's Gettys led the league in strikeouts this week with six. With 16 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks first in the league.

Caleb Whitenton drove in six runners as the Red Elephants defeated Habersham Central 11-0 on Thursday. He went 2-for-2 and scored one run.



Gainesville's Gettys threw five shutout innings in an 11-0 win over the Raiders on Thursday. He struck out six, allowing zero hits.
