Three state title games featured in this week's slate includes Don Bosco Prep vs. Bergen Catholic in New Jersey.
There are some monster playoff matchups this week but none bigger than the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship between No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) on Friday at the Rose Bowl. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and the winner advances to the CIF Open Division state championship Dec. 10 at Saddleback College.
The Monarchs won the regular season meeting 17-7 in a game that was within one score until the final minute when sophomore running back
Jordon Davison iced it with a 38-yard touchdown run. Mater Dei has beat the Braves three straight times, all with junior quarterback
Elijah Brown under center. St. John Bosco has won five in a row since that loss outscoring the opposition 225-34.
Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco is one of five games featured in this week's slate that has the top-two teams in the state squaring off.
Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey) faces Bergen Catholic (Oradell) in the New Jersey Non-Public A title at MetLife Stadium on Friday.
Catholic (Baton Rouge) hosts Edna Karr (New Orleans) in the Louisiana Division 1 Select quarterfinals on Friday.

This will be the fifth meeting in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship since 2016 between these two SoCal powers with the series split. St. John Bosco won it in 2016 and 2019. Mater Dei did in 2017 and 2018. The Monarchs added another in 2021 with a 27-7 win over Servite (Anaheim) in the first section championship game Bosco didn't play in since 2012. This will be sixth consecutive section championship game appearance for Mater Dei. The Monarchs bring in a 29-game win streak, all have come with Brown under center.

Bergen Catholic has been wanting to get this one back since the Ironmen cruised to a 31-7 win in September. That is the only loss the Crusaders have had over the last two years. These two met in the Non-Public A title last season and Bergen rolled to a 28-7 win. It was the Crusaders 18th state championship in school history. Don Bosco Prep will be going for its 16th state title and first since 2015.

Lakota West (West Chester) its first loss of the season in the quarterfinals. Springfield has reeled off eight straight since a 24-21 loss against
Fairmont (Kettering). The winner will face either St. Edward (Lakewood) or

The Red Raiders have won 21 games in a row against in-state opponents but Punahou was close to snapping that streak during the regular season. Kahuku erased a 20-13 fourth quarter deficit and pulled out a 27-20 win. That is the only loss and one-score game Punahou has been in this season. They have outscored the opposition 411-93 in its nine wins and have won every game by at least 16 points. Kahuku's only two losses came against No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and No. 13

These two Ohio powers square off with a spot in the Division 2 state championship on the line. The Tigers have won 12 in a row since a season-opening 49-31 loss against No. 24 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati). They are also the only team to beat No. 20 St. Edward (Lakewood). Massillon Washington won 24 AP state titles before the playoff system was put in place in 1972 and are two wins away from winning its first under the current playoff format. Archbishop Hoban has won five state titles since 2015. The winner will face either
Central Catholic (Toledo) or
Kings (Kings Mill) on Dec. 1 in the Division 2 state championship.

Sheldon has won every game this season by double digits except for one, and that came against West Linn. The Irish pulled out a 35-31 win during the second week of the regular season. Expect another classic on Friday for the 6A state title. Both these teams are loaded with talent, especially at the quarterback position. Both are heavily in the mix to be named the 2022 MaxPreps Oregon Football Player of the Year.

This matchup is another rematch as Eastside Catholic handed O'Dea's its only loss of the season with a 24-17 victory in late September. That is the only one score game the Crusaders have been in all year. They have outscored the opposition 431-111. The Fighting Irish have won six in a row since that loss outscoring the opposition 253-89. The winner will face either
Yelm or
Bellevue in the 3A state championship on Dec. 3.
