Soccer Game Preview: Carlsbad vs. Scripps Ranch

Carlsbad and Scripps Ranch are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Carlsbad Lancers will take on the Scripps Ranch Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Carlsbad's last four matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Scripps Ranch will have to contend with a Carlsbad squad hungry for a win, something the team hasn't seen since December 20. Carlsbad fell just short of Torrey Pines by a score of 2-1 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 311th, while the Falcons are ranked 155th).

Scripps Ranch, on the other hand, haven't lost since December 11, 2024 and they too continued that trend. They had just enough and edged University City out 2-1. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by just one goal.

Chloe Adams and Annalise Hickman scored both of Scripps Ranch's goals, bringing their combined season tally to ten goals.

Scripps Ranch's victory bumped their record up to 7-2-4. As for Carlsbad, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7-4.

Carlsbad came up short against Scripps Ranch when the teams last played back in December of 2019, falling 3-1. Can Carlsbad avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
