By Kevin Askeland Dec 21, 2023, 12:00pm

Tigers scored 70 or more four times en route to unbeaten season, Class 3A Division 2 state title.

Gunter captured the Class 3A Division 2 state championship in Texas while also finishing as the highest-scoring high school football team in the nation. With 903 points in 16 games, the Dallas-area school became just the 12th team in history to score over 900 points in a season.

The Tigers finished undefeated for the 13th time in school history and have won 31 straight games with back-to-back state championships. Gunter broke its previous school record for points in a season (811 in 2021) by nearly 100 points, scoring over 50 points 10 times and over 70 points four times.

A total of 12 teams scored over 800 points, doubling the number of teams that scored over 800 in 2022. A total of 55 teams scored 700 or more points, compared to 39 in 2022.

Of the teams that scored over 700 points, Soldotna (Alaska) had the highest scoring average at 63.9 points per game.

Schools are listed with their season record, scoring average, highest-scoring game and lowest-scoring game.
