Baseball Recap: South Central Has No Trouble Against Mapleton

After low-scoring totals in their previous three matchup, South Central brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Mapleton Mounties on Tuesday. That 20-run margin sets a new team best for the Trojans this season.

Weston June made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for South Central: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, South Central got a massive performance out of Kaden Blair, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three hits gave Blair a new career-high. Troy Ayers was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.

South Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

With the victory, South Central broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-12-1. As for Mapleton, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-20.

South Central and Mapleton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Trojans (ranked 471st) will meet Edison (ranked 166th) at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mapleton will challenge Hillsdale at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (685 vs. 233).
