Football Recap: Sylmar Spartans vs. Kennedy Cougars

Sylmar suffered their biggest defeat since October 18, 2024 on Friday. They were outmatched by the Kennedy Cougars and fell 42-13. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Spartans' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Despite the loss, Sylmar still got an impressive performance from Tim Tanner Jr, who rushed for 33 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 125 yards and one TD.

While Sylmar came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Kennedy: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for the Spartans; they were averaging 60.6%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 0%.

Diego Montes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Kennedy, rushing for 200 yards and three scores on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns. With that strong performance, Montes is now averaging an impressive 105.3 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Josue Sandoval, who gained 124 total yards and a touchdown.

This is the second loss in a row for Sylmar and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Kennedy, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.
