Basketball Game Preview: Troy Trojans vs. Wellsboro Hornets

The Troy Trojans will head out to square off against the Wellsboro Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Troy has 12 straight victories, Wellsboro has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Troy will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Jersey Shore, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Troy came out on top against Jersey Shore by a score of 57-48 on Saturday.

Troy relied on the efforts of Kailyn Sterling, who went 9 for 13 on her way to 23 points and six boards, and Alyssa Parks, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most boards Parks has posted since back in December of 2024. Giana Renzi was another key player, putting up ten points.

Meanwhile, Wellsboro was beaten by Towanda 50-18 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 520th, while the Black Knights are ranked 256th).

Troy pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.9 points over those games. As for Wellsboro, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.

Everything came up roses for Troy against Wellsboro when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured a 78-25 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Troy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
