Preview: De Anza Dons vs. Pinole Valley Spartans
De Anza has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Pinole Valley Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. De Anza will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1006th, while Pinole Valley is ranked 311th).
On Tuesday, De Anza lost to Swett at home by a decisive 50-36 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for De Anza in their matchups with Swett: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, Pinole Valley was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 35-34 to Salesian College Preparatory.
De Anza's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-13. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Pinole Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
De Anza was dealt a bruising 67-12 loss at the hands of Pinole Valley in their previous matchup on January 9th. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point De Anza was down 51-0.
