Basketball Recap: Roosevelt's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

On Saturday, the Roosevelt Rough Riders didn't have too much trouble with the Sacramento Dragons as they won 55-39. Given the Rough Riders' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Dragons are ranked 391st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Roosevelt found their leader in sophomore Nyleigh Gregory, who almost dropped a double-double on 35 points and nine boards. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Gregory has scored at least a third of Roosevelt's points. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Reese, who posted eight points and eight boards.

Sacramento's loss came despite strong showings from La Ne Dunn and Chrisshaya Haygood. Dunn dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards, while Haygood almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 boards. Dunn has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Gattoni-Pointer, who put up six points.

Roosevelt's victory bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Sacramento, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will face off against Buchanan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Roosevelt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season. As for Sacramento, they will square off against Wood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Dunn and Mikyah Dixon.
