Pittsburg hadn't done well against Heritage recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Pittsburg Pirates had just enough and edged the Heritage Patriots out 46-44. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Pirates' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 525th, while the Patriots are ranked 254th).

Jaqueline Martinez was the offensive standout of the match as she posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Jurnee Cox, who had 12 points.

Heritage lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Payton Ladrido, who earned ten points and three steals. Olachi Nwosu was another key player, putting up seven points and ten rebounds.

Pittsburg's record now sits at 10-13. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pittsburg will take on Deer Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pittsburg is facing Deer Valley at the right time seeing as Deer Valley is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Heritage, they will face off against Antioch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Antioch has won three straight at home, while Heritage won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
