Softball Recap: North Platte Comes Up Short

North Platte extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 6-4. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Harrison Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 6-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

North Platte saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Francis Kossen, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for South Harrison, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games.

On South Harrison's side, Rory Fitzgerald spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. North Platte will square off against Mid-Buchanan at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 3.6, the Dragons 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for South Harrison, they will challenge Albany at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
