Football Recap: Ruidoso Falls to Eunice in First Game of Season

Ruidoso unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 60-39 to the Eunice Cardinals on Friday. The Warriors lost against the Cardinals in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 51-6 score last time.

Mason Fikany and Tru Camejo certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Fikany gained 252 total yards and three touchdowns, while Camejo gained 200 total yards and three touchdowns. Fikany showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 69 yards.

Elijah Melancon had an outrageously good game for Eunice as he threw for 249 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 143 yards and one score while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Those 143 rushing yards gave Melancon a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ruidoso will head out to take on Tularosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eunice, they will venture away from home to face off against Estancia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
