Basketball Recap: Marquez Takes a Loss

Marquez suffered their closest defeat since December 4, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Marymount Sailors by a score of 51-49. The Gladiators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Loss or not, Marquez got some senior leadership from Corshell Vaughn and Magaly Gonzalez. Vaughn dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Gonzalez posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Vaughn has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more boards the last 28 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Carrillo, who put up seven points and five rebounds.

Marquez's defeat dropped their record down to 6-7. As for Marymount, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Marquez won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South East at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Marquez has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests. As for Marymount, they will venture away from home to square off against Bishop Alemany at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
