Football Recap: Shawnee Mission South Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Shawnee Mission South had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-2 to make it five. They took a blow against the Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazers, falling 51-7. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, the Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.

Solomon Hirsch threw for 127 yards and one TD. Luke Black was his top target, picking up 45 receiving yards and one score.

As for Gardner-Edgerton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Shawnee Mission South is ranked 79th).

Syre Padilla had a dynamite game, rushing for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Porter Swaim, who gained 86 total yards.

Shawnee Mission South wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 30-17 victory against Shawnee Mission West on the 26th. As for Gardner-Edgerton, they have also already played their next contest, a 42-7 win against Olathe North on the 26th.
