Basketball Recap: Elgin Takes a Loss

Elgin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They fell 55-43 to the Crockett Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 968th, while the Cougars are ranked 411th).

Lauren Smith produced another solid effort shooting 46% from the field en route to 29 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals for Crockett. That makes it five consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of the Cougars' points. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Smith, who posted six points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Elgin's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Crockett, their record now sits at 13-5.

Elgin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-36 victory against Rockdale on the 11th. As for Crockett, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-41 win against Smithville on the 11th.
