Basketball Recap: South Williamsport Comes Up Short

On Monday, the South Williamsport Mountaineers came up short against the Central Mountain Wildcats and fell 63-53. The Mountaineers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, South Williamsport still got an impressive performance from Abby Akers, who went 8 of 20 en route to 28 points and five boards. Kaitlyn Apker was another key player, putting up nine points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, South Williamsport was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Central Mountain's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lena Walker, who posted 19 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The dominant performance gave Walker a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camdyn Weaver, who earned 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

South Williamsport now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Central Mountain, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6.

South Williamsport didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-2 win against Sullivan County on the 21st. Central Mountain has also already played their next contest, a 53-42 victory against Danville on the 22nd.
