Basketball Game Preview: Williams Valley Vikings vs. Tamaqua Blue Raiders

The Williams Valley Vikings will square off against the Tamaqua Blue Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Williams Valley is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

Williams Valley will head into Monday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 52-point drubbing they dealt Weatherly on Monday. Williams Valley blew past Weatherly, posting a 63-11 win. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Tamaqua was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 44-39 to North Schuylkill. While the Blue Raiders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Spartans 8-4 in the first quarter.

Williams Valley will need focus on slowing down Millie Black, one of several Tamaqua players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Ligenza, who posted eight points along with 12 boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Tamaqua smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups.

Williams Valley's victory bumped their record up to 18-2. As for Tamaqua, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-5.
