Basketball Recap: Mission Hills Finds Playoff Glory Versus Francis Parker

Mission Hills had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Francis Parker Lancers by a score of 60-51 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won three in a row.

Mission Hills got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maleena Nava out in front who went 9-for-15 on her way to 23 points and six boards. The dominant performance also gave Nava a new career-high in blocks (two). Hc Harding was another key player, shooting 42% from the field to rack up 12 points and six rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Francis Parker saw an underclassman step up: freshman Isabella Riddle dropped a double-double with 15 points and 15 boards. Riddle is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brianna Mendez, who posted 13 points and six boards.

Mission Hills' record now sits at 23-8. As for Francis Parker, they moved to 20-9 with that loss, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Mission Hills is taking a road trip to face off against Sierra Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mission Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Sierra Canyon likes a good challenge. As for Francis Parker, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Harvard-Westlake at 5:00 p.m. Francis Parker is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season.
