Basketball Recap: Lowell Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Lowell faced off against San Mateo on Saturday. The Lowell Cardinals fell just short of the San Mateo Bearcats by a score of 41-38. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cardinals came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while the Bearcats are ranked 495th).

Lowell's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for San Mateo, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Lowell and Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Lowell surely won't give up without a fight. As for San Mateo, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Overfelt at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. San Mateo is facing Overfelt at the right time seeing as Overfelt is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
