Football Recap: Rio Grande Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Rio Grande unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 28-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aztec Tigers on Friday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it ten in a row.

Lorenzo Lucero was nothing short of spectacular for Aztec: he rushed for 156 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Those 156 rushing yards gave Lucero a new career-high.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio Grande will host Manzano at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Aztec, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Miyamura at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
