Basketball Recap: Lake Wales Comes Up Short

Lake Wales played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks 88-54. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the Hawks are ranked 60th).

Several Highlanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sebastian Perez, who posted ten points and five boards. Perez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bradley Auguste, who put up five points and five rebounds.

Tate Darner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Santa Fe Catholic, going 12 for 15 en route to 31 points along with five assists and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Darner has scored at least a third of Santa Fe Catholic's points. Toby Lane was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten assists.

Lake Wales' record now sits at 10-12. As for Santa Fe Catholic, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-8.

Lake Wales didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-58 defeat against Auburndale on the 30th. Santa Fe Catholic has also already played their next match, a 77-53 win against Winthrop College Prep Academy on the 29th.
