Softball Recap: St. Augustine Takes a Loss

St. Augustine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 23rd straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the Ponte Vedra Sharks, falling 19-4. If the Yellow Jackets were looking for revenge after losing 17-0 to the Sharks when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

St. Augustine saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Cutter, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

St. Augustine's defeat dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Ponte Vedra, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Augustine will venture away from home to square off against Flagler Palm Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.13 runs per game on average), something the Yellow Jackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ponte Vedra, they will head out on the road to challenge Mandarin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sharks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
