Preview: Towanda Black Knights vs. North Penn-Mansfield Tigers
The Towanda Black Knights will head out on the road to face off against the North Penn-Mansfield Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Towanda beat North Penn-Liberty 42-37. The victory was just what Towanda needed coming off of a 49-15 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, North Penn-Mansfield had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They skirted past Wyalusing Valley 36-33. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory North Penn-Mansfield has posted yet this season.
North Penn-Mansfield can attribute much of their success to Kameron Lightner, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and McKenna Lightner, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Lightner continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
The win got Towanda back to even at 4-4. As for North Penn-Mansfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Everything went Towanda's way against North Penn-Mansfield in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as Towanda made off with a 51-27 win. With Towanda ahead 40-5 at the half, the game was all but over already.
