Softball Recap: Islands Sharks vs. Jenkins Warriors
Islands had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it five. They lost 16-5 to the Jenkins Warriors. The Sharks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 15-6.
As for Jenkins, their record is now 2-9. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
For Jenkins' part, Gabby Barnum made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Barnum was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ma'Kaiyah Gray was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayanna Moore, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Islands will host Calvary Day at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.5 runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
