Basketball Recap: Paityn Tyre Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Bennett

After losing to Bennett the last time they met, Decatur decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Decatur Seahawks strolled past the Bennett Clippers with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 63-48. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Seahawks.

Decatur's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paityn Tyre led the charge by dropping a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Tyre has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Gunther, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Decatur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Decatur pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 43 points. As for Bennett, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Looking ahead, Decatur will head out on the road to challenge Queen Anne's County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bennett, they will challenge Crisfield on Wednesday.
