Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is El Capitan's 15th in Last 17 Outings

El Capitan won the last time they faced Helix and things went their way on Friday too. The El Capitan Vaqueros came out on top against the Helix Highlanders by a score of 47-34. Given the Vaqueros' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Highlanders are ranked 530th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

El Capitan got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Paige Worthem out in front who went 6 for 11 en route to 16 points and eight boards. The contest was Worthem's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keira Heinricy, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Helix still got an impressive performance from Cheyenne McMillan, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight boards and four blocks. That was a full 52.9% of Helix's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Michaelle Whyte, who scored seven points.

El Capitan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for Helix, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-11.

El Capitan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-38 win against Granite Hills on the 4th. Helix has also already played their next contest, a 45-29 defeat against Grossmont on the 4th.
