Softball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Chadron's Winning Streak

Chadron dropped down to 11-8 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 7-4 to the North Platte Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-2 two weeks ago.

Jae Gooder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Chadron saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cali Hendrickson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for North Platte, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On North Platte's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Aryadnna Reyna gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. Reyna has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Faith Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Devaney Jones was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Chadron has already played their next matchup, a 12-11 defeat against Alliance on the 20th. As for North Platte, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-4 loss against Ralston on the 20th.
