Basketball Recap: Bellefonte Starts Season with Win at Home

Bellefonte took care of business in their home opener on Monday. They snuck past the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers with a 44-40 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Philipsburg-Osceola lost, don't look at Emily Gustkey. Despite the final result, she went 9 of 19 en route to 22 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Gustkey a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Maddy Malinich, who posted ten points in addition to six assists and four steals.

Philipsburg-Osceola dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Bellefonte will face off against Clearfield at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, they will square off against Bishop Guilfoyle at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Guilfoyle will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Philipsburg-Osceola surely won't give up without a fight.
