Baseball Recap: Darlington Comes Up Short

Darlington had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 5-5 to make it four. They fell 6-3 to the Fennimore Golden Eagles. The Redbirds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Golden Eagles earlier this season, when they won 6-4.

As for Fennimore, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Fennimore's part, Grant Biba made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Biba has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianni Filardo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Corey Dresen, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
