Basketball Game Preview: Mapletown Maples vs. Avella Eagles

The Mapletown Maples are taking a road trip to square off against the Avella Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mapletown has now lost 20 straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 4th.

Mapletown is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Frazier on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Maples took a blow against the Commodores, falling 56-23. The Maples were down 48-19 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avella). They walked away with a 56-48 victory over Frazier on Tuesday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their 22-point performance the game before.

The win got Avella back to even at 2-2. As for Mapletown, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Mapletown couldn't quite finish off Avella in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 35-32. Can the Maples avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
