Softball Recap: Gretna East Takes Down Ranked Blair

Gretna East faced Blair in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Griffins never let the Bears get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. This was a revenge game for the Griffins: when they faced off against the Bears two weeks ago, they had to take a 12-2 defeat.

Gretna East got a great performance from Hadley McDowell as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. McDowell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Peyton Boone was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Aubrey Horst was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Gretna East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Gretna East's victory bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Blair, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-6.

Coming up, Gretna East will be playing at home against Mercy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Blair, they have already played their next contest, a 14-5 win against Hastings on the 25th.
