Football Recap: Shawnee Mission North Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Shawnee Mission North extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 0-6. They were outmatched by the Shawnee Mission East Lancers and fell 49-21. The Bison were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.

When it comes to explaining why Shawnee Mission North lost, don't look at Alex Casares. Despite the final result, he picked up 71 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 88 yards.

As for Shawnee Mission East, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Shawnee Mission North is ranked 94th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jack Reeves had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 216 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 51 yards and one TD. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 216 rushing yards. Thomas Vanice helped out on the ground, rushing for 131 yards and a rushing touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Shawnee Mission North is set to square off against their familiar foe Lawrence on Thursday. Meanwhile, Shawnee Mission East will take on rival Olathe West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,121 yards in their previous games.
