Football Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Hillsborough Terriers + Official Tickets

The Sumner Stingrays are taking a road trip to face off against the Hillsborough Terriers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Sumner is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 44 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Lakeland on Friday. They took a blow against the Dreadnaughts, falling 41-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Stingrays have suffered since October 4, 2024.

Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last game, Hillsborough made sure to put some points up on the board against Brandon last Friday. The Terriers blew past the Eagles, posting a 62-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Terriers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Tariq Johnson and Earl Garcia IV. Johnson rushed for 116 yards and two scores on only six carries while Garcia IV rushed for 68 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jacob Plaisir got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Hillsborough's run defense was locked in: Brandon could only muster 0.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Cedric Carrolls for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hillsborough didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 13.5.

Sumner moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Hillsborough, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-4.

Sumner strolled past Hillsborough in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a score of 29-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stingrays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
