Softball Recap: Commerce Tigers vs. Chisum Mustangs
Commerce extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 6-11-1. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chisum Mustangs. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Charley Lytle was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Mylee Hall was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Lily Walden was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
As for Chisum, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Commerce will challenge Lone Oak at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Buffaloes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.62 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Chisum, they will head out on the road to challenge Como-Pickton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
