Basketball Recap: Gompers Prep Academy Comes Up Short

Gompers Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 26-16 to the Mountain Empire Redhawks. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Redhawks from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Mountain Empire was led to victory by Kourtlyn Hardison and Carli McGhee. Hardison posted ten points, while McGhee earned nine points. Bibi Caceres was another key player, putting up seven points.

Gompers Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Mountain Empire, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

Gompers Prep Academy will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Monarch at 4:00 p.m. Monarch has insisted on making their lastfive contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-5 during that stretch of close contests. As for Mountain Empire, they will venture away from home to take on High Tech CV at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Empire's defense has only allowed 21.1 points per game this season, so High Tech CV's offense will have their work cut out for them.
