Recap: Downey Vikings vs. San Clemente Tritons
The Downey Vikings lost against the San Clemente Tritons back in December of 2019, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Downey fell 54-44 to San Clemente.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amanda Velazquez, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Velazquez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Symantha Barnett was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Downey's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for San Clemente, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Downey's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lapwai at 3:00 p.m. on December 28th. Lapwai presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Downey in their respective states (Lapwai is ranked eighth in Idaho, while Downey is ranked 138th in California). San Clemente will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Beckman at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
