Basketball Game Preview: McKinleyville Panthers vs. Arcata Tigers

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the McKinleyville Panthers take on the Arcata Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday... Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, McKinleyville beat Fortuna 36-32. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Huskies are ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Arcata came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 49-37.

Arcata's win came from a few key players McKinleyville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tae Wolford, who posted 12 points and four steals. Mae Wolford was another key player, putting up 13 points and four steals.

Arcata's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-6. As for McKinleyville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-8.

McKinleyville ended up a good deal behind Arcata in their previous meeting back in January, losing 54-35. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wolford, who had 22 points.
