Soccer Game Preview: Woodland vs. Clarkston

The Woodland Wolfpack will head out on the road to challenge the Clarkston Angoras at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Woodland has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Clarkston will arrive with three straight wins.

Woodland lost 6-2 to McDonough on Tuesday. Woodland were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 4-0.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Clarkston and Cross Keys, and Clarkston kept the tradition alive. The Angoras' defense stepped up to hand the Phoenix a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. Given Clarkston's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Cross Keys are ranked 155th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clarkston's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 30 goals over those seven games. As for Woodland, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Woodland came up short against Clarkston when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 4-2. Can the Wolfpack avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
