Basketball Game Preview: Castro Valley Trojans vs. Bishop O'Dowd Dragons

Castro Valley is 0-10 against Bishop O'Dowd since January of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Castro Valley Trojans will challenge the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons at 5:30 p.m. Castro Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.

Castro Valley saw some tournament action on Monday. They took a hard 61-43 fall against Liberty. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Naomi Chew, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Mya Rufino Williams was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Bishop O'Dowd was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Monday as they fell 63-58 to South Medford. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 130th in California, while the Panthers are ranked third in Oregon).

Castro Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Bishop O'Dowd, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Castro Valley took a serious blow against Bishop O'Dowd when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 65-27. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Castro Valley was down 33-9.
