Basketball Game Preview: Pacheco Panthers vs. Ceres Bulldogs

The Pacheco Panthers will face off against the Ceres Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pacheco will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Pacheco is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 60-33 win over Johansen.

Pacheco relied on the efforts of Mary Tava, who posted 15 points in addition to six boards and four steals, and Ashley Jimenez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten steals. What's more, Jimenez also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sasha Siemiller, who put up eight points and five steals.

Meanwhile, Ceres hadn't done well against Lathrop recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Ceres came out on top against Lathrop by a score of 53-44. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Spartans are ranked 691st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ceres' win came from a few key players Pacheco will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lilly Staggs, who had 15 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Leifried, who posted seven points in addition to seven steals and six boards.

Ceres is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.9 points per game. As for Pacheco, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
