Preview: Gregori Jaguars vs. Modesto Panthers

Gregori has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Modesto Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Gregori is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Modesto in California (Gregori is ranked 426th, while Modesto is ranked 1282nd).
Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail nine more threes than your opponent, a fact Gregori proved on Tuesday. They came out on top against Enochs by a score of 60-47.
Veronica Whitten and Alanah Lopez were among the main playmakers for Gregori as the former dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds and the latter scored 23 points along with three steals. Whitten hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Lilly Staggs, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Modesto, who are still winless after their 12th match. They were beaten by Downey 53-24 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Modesto has suffered against Downey since January 28, 2020.
Gregori pushed their record up to 12-8 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Modesto, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.
Gregori didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Modesto in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 30-25 victory. Does Gregori have another victory up their sleeve, or will Modesto turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
