Basketball Recap: Gertz-Ressler Comes Up Short

Gertz-Ressler has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 30 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Marquez Gladiators and fell 58-15. The Pumas were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-12.

Sophie Mejia was Gertz-Ressler's leading scorer, having posted four points.

Marquez had a senior duo take command as Corshell Vaughn dropped a double-double on 14 points and 23 rebounds and Magaly Gonzalez dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Vaughn has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more boards the last 22 times she's played. Samantha Larios was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Gertz-Ressler moved to 3-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Marquez, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Gertz-Ressler will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on New Designs University Park at 3:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025. As for Marquez, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
