Basketball Recap: Moniteau Comes Up Short

Moniteau lost against Redbank Valley back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Moniteau Warriors were outmatched by the Redbank Valley Bulldogs and fell 56-28. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 482nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 116th).

Moniteau's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Emily Matz, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals, and Sophia Fleeger, who put up 13 points and six boards. That was a full 46.4% of Moniteau's points, marking the third time in a row Fleeger has had more than a third of the team's points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Redbank Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mylee Harmon, who went 9-for-14 en route to 19 points and seven steals. Harmon has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 30 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Adyson Bond, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 15 points and five rebounds.

Moniteau's loss dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Redbank Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, Moniteau and Redbank Valley will both be playing Karns City the next time they take the court. Redbank Valley will head out to face Karns City at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Moniteau will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on February 21st.
