Basketball Recap: Dos Palos Takes a Loss

Dos Palos lost against Coalinga back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Dos Palos Broncos were beaten by the Coalinga Horned Toads 58-20. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1011th, while the Horned Toads are ranked 306th).

Despite the loss, Dos Palos saw an underclassman step up: freshman Brionte Neal posted seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coalinga to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kylie Carpenter, who put up 11 points and three steals. Carpenter has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Alikah Rafiu was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 12 points.

Dos Palos has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Coalinga, they pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

Dos Palos didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-20 victory against Avenal on the 28th. As for Coalinga, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 45-30 win against Firebaugh on the 28th.
