Baseball Recap: Piedmont Academy Comes Up Short

Piedmont Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the John Milledge Academy Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 last Tuesday.

Jack Adams was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Piedmont Academy is 3-1 when Adams posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Alex Statham was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Adams wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Piedmont Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of five games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Piedmont Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for John Milledge Academy, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Piedmont Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mount de Sales Academy at 4:00 p.m. on April 8. As for John Milledge Academy, they are taking a road trip to take on Frederica Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
