Basketball Recap: Victor Valley Comes Up Short

Victor Valley had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 42-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sultana Sultans. The Jackrabbits were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sultans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Victor Valley lost, don't look at Arnetta Ealy Newton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 13 points and 19 boards. Ealy Newton is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played dating back to last season.

Viviana Horta went supernova For Sultana., dropping a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Those 21 points gave Horta a new career-high. Alice Montoya was another key player, putting up six points along with five boards and three steals.

Victor Valley has already played their next matchup, a 59-30 victory against Academy for Academic Excellence on the 18th. As for Sultana, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-14 win against Granite Hills on the 20th.
