Football Recap: Mishawaka Marian Comes Up Short

Mishawaka Marian had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it eight. They took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Prairie Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 42-28 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Mishawaka Marian lost, don't look at Vinny Gruber. Despite the final result, he rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns.

As for New Prairie, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.5 points over those games.

Reed Robinson produced another solid effort rushing for 291 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 72 yards and two touchdowns. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 66 yards.

Coming up, Mishawaka Marian will face off against Elkhart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for New Prairie, they will challenge Penn at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Kingsmen have now posted at least 31 points in their last five matchups.
