Basketball Recap: Centennial Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

It's playoff time, and Centennial had no trouble coming through when it counted. They enjoyed a cozy 64-47 victory over the Roosevelt Rough Riders on Friday. Given the Golden Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Rough Riders are ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Roosevelt saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nyleigh Gregory went 12-for-23 on her way to 32 points and eight boards. That was a full 68.1% of Roosevelt's points, marking the fifth time in a row Gregory has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Reese, who had ten points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Centennial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points over those games. As for Roosevelt, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 19-10 record this season.

Coming up, Centennial will be playing at home against San Luis Obispo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with San Luis Obispo sitting on 13 straight wins and Centennial on seven. Roosevelt does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
